Austrian gaming operator Bwin has failed in its challenge against German Internet gambling bans.
The online gaming giant, which offers online bingo amongst its services, hoped to have the German Federal Court of Justice overturn the ruling that prevents Bwin from delivering casino games and betting to Germany.
However, Bwin’s motion to suspend proceedings on enforcing the ban was rejected on procedural grounds. The company’s shares dropped eight per cent as a result.
Whilst online bingo is not as popular in Germany as it is in the UK, Bwin’s action attempted to prevent the country from creating a state gambling monopoly that would leave non-German online bingo operators unable to access the country’s market.
