The House Financial Services Committee voted in favour of Congressman Barney Frank’s bill to review US online gambling and online bingo laws.
The bill, which attacks the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, received a positive vote of 30-19 this week and is on its way to the House.
The bill seeks to suspend any regulations of the UIGEA “except to the extent as any such regulation pertains to wagering of the type that is prohibited”.
Congressman and Democrat William Lacy Clay said of the UIGEA: “Sometimes we should be willing to admit when we made a mistake and passed a law that’s unenforceable.”
