Online bingo in Italy has hit a stumbling block only weeks after it launched due to a court ruling.
Italians were able to log on and play bingo, also known as 'Tombola' in December 2009 but the administrative court of the Lazio region called for the bingo operators to pause their activity.
The reason for the ruling was the failure of the decrees regulating online bingo to comply with the formalities required by Italian Law.
This is not the first obstacle bingo games have faced in Italy - in October 2009, the court of Lazio made the same ruling against bingo halls that attempted to interconnect their players.
Italian online bingo operators are expected to have to wait until the Court of Appeal overturns the decision or the Italian Gaming Authority gains the required approvals and re-issues the decrees.
This pause in activity may give rise to a number of new Italian online bingo sites, should new operator's choose to take advantage of this period in which their competitors are unable to function.
